This image was inspired by the work of a fellow artist and acquaintence, Jessica Douglas. I always loved her combination of jewels and winged heavenly creatures and wanted to try the theme on for myself with my favorite gemstone. It is said the god Dionysus was pursuing a nymph named Amethystos, who was spared his affections when Artemis turned her into a pillar of quartz. Dionysus' tears of wine shed over Amethystos' wish to remain pure dyed the stone purple. View a Walkthrough of this image. |
